Washington State Lacrosse Convention Details

- Coaches: Pre-registrations will receive Washington State Lacrosse Convention materials and ability to register quickly and easily. Day of event registrations are available, but may be subject to long lines and limited materials.
- High School Varsity Athlete spaces LIMITED. Pre-registration is highly recommended to reserve a spot.
Sunday, January 30th: $12 First Aid and CPR, $5 Timers and Scorekeepers
- There are 3 available sessions for First Aid and CPR classes. Please select which session you would like on your registration. Each class is limited to 20 people, so please register early!
- 9 – 11:30am (check-in at 8:30): RE-CERT ONLY. This class is designed for coaches who have been certified in CPR and/or FIRST AID within the last year and will move quickly.
- 12 noon – 2:30pm (check-in at 11:30): Standard First Aid and CPR
- 3:00 – 5:30pm (check-in at 2:30): Standard First Aid and CPR
Timers and Scorekeepers for Washington Schoolgirls Lacrosse. 10am – 12pm (Check-in at 9:30am). NO Registration Required. BRING $5 to the class.
Key Note Speakers
Chuck Apel served as head coach of the 2008 United States U-19 National Team that competed in Vancouver, BC two years ago. Under his guidance that team went undefeated in tournament play, claiming the gold medal by defeating Canada 19-12 in the Championship game. He has been involved with the men's U-19 program since its inception in 1988, serving as a selector for the team each year. Apel, an All-American defenseman at Rutgers, was an assistant coach for the 1999 U.S. U-19 team that won the world championship in Australia.
Coach Apel has served as the head coach at Bridgewater-Raritan High School in New Jersey since 1980 and has won more than 300 games in his career. He led the school to a state championship in 1998 and in 2001 was inducted into the US Lacrosse New Jersey Chapter and New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association (NJSCA) halls of fame.
Jen Larsen is head coach of the Oregon Ducks Division I Women’s Lacrosse team. Her mission is to build Oregon lacrosse into one of the nation’s premier programs and help develop lacrosse in the Northwest. A native of Doylestown, Pa., Larsen served as an assistant coach for three years at the University of North Carolina, For the past three years, she has served as a volunteer assistant coach with the US National Women’s lacrosse Developmental team, as well as working on the selection committee.
In her time with the Tar Heels, the program won the Atlantic Coast Conference championship and advanced to the 2002 NCAA Final Four. Prior to her experience at North Carolina, Larsen worked at Duke University from 1998-2000 as an assistant coach and camp director for the field hockey program. She also worked at Georgetown from 1996-1998 as an assistant lacrosse and field hockey coach. Larsen was a two-sport star at the University of Virginia, captaining both the lacrosse and field hockey teams. Larsen and her lacrosse teammates won the national championship in 1993 and finished as the runner-up in 1996. In field hockey, the Cavaliers advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals in 1995, while Larsen was named a second team regional All-American in 1994 and 1995. Larsen graduated from Virginia in 1996 with a degree in psychology.
Washington Lacrosse Convention Speakers
Kevin Giblin finished his 21st season at Georgetown Prep, leading his team to 20-3 record and the IAC title. Kevin has compiled an impressive record of 335-70 (83%) including six IAC titles in 1993, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2009. Coach Giblin has also served as an assistant coach for the 2008 USA U-19 Gold medal team, as well as the Under Armour All-American South squad coach in 2009. A 12 time honoree of Coach of the Year, Kevin has lead Georgetown Prep to a National ranking of #1 in 2003 and 2006.
As a player Kevin was captain at Washington College, leading his team to two NCAA championship games. Coach Giblin was inducted into the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame-Potomac Chapter and the Georgetown Prep Athletic Hall of Fame, both in 2007. Over 135 players have gone on to have collegiate careers under Coach Giblin, including 26 HS All-Americans.
Crista Samaras is the CEO of BOUNCE ENTERTAINMENT, a boom-boom-pow company that runs and operates 4 club teams including XTEAM. XTEAM is a National Club Team for girls from non-traditional areas that come together with the interest of pursuing lacrosse in college. The other three teams are NewLax (CT/NY/NJ), TEAM OC (Southern California) and the ATL (Georgia). Crista has a passion for the game and a gift for teaching it to high school girls. She has a flare for clothing and a BIG personality to match. She KNOWS lacrosse.
A graduate of Princeton University, Samaras was a 3x All American, 2x Ivy League Player of the Year and maintains each of the records she set upon graduation in 1999. She won a gold medal in 2001 for the United States and at the 2005 World Cup was twice awarded Player of the Match en route to a silver medal finish. She has coached at Yale University, inaugurated the women’s line at Warrior Lacrosse, consulted National Championship teams, been commissioned to write extensive player and coach training curriculums and served as a motivational speaker. Additionally, she was selected to co-Host the 2006 Final Four banquet commemorating 25 Years for women’s lacrosse. Since 2006, she has traveled to the UK and Japan (2x) to teach and help develop youth programs. As a dynamic speaker, she has spoken at the US Lacrosse National Convention as well as the US Lacrosse California and Utah Conventions.
Greg Maestretti started playing lacrosse in 1985. Greg was a 4 yr All Star Player and MVP at Whitman College 1987, 88, 89, 90 as well as captain in 88, 89, 90. Assistant Coach at Lakeside in 1991 and 1992. Five time Jammin Salmon NW 1st line midfield at the Vail Shootout. Multiple time NW Club All Star and Multiple NW Mens Club championships with Blue Fish Lacrosse Club and Crease Monkey Lacrosse Club. In 2009 Greg expanded his lacrosse experience as Assistant Coach with the Girls 3/4 Doublecrosse lacrosse team. He plans to continue to work with Doublecrosse in 2010.
Ginger Miles the 2009-10 season will mark the inaugural year of Ginger Miles’ head coaching career at Claremont-Mudd Scripts for the women’s lacrosse team. Miles is a 2006 graduate of the University of Virginia’s College of Arts and Sciences. She was a volunteer assistant coach at her alma mater in 2009 while working as an admissions counselor in the Outreach Office for the University of Virginia Office of Undergraduate Admissions. She spent three seasons coaching the Blue Ridge Lacrosse Club and coached the Virginia Western Region squad to a gold medal at the 2008 Commonwealth Games.
In two years as the assistant coach of Western Albemarle High School, the team was named 2007 Jefferson District Champions and 2008 Regional and District Champions. Miles was part of the 2007 and 2008 VHSL Coaching Staff of the Year for Central Virginia. During her time as a goalkeeper at Virginia, the Cavaliers recorded one NCAA Championship (2004) and 2 ACC Championships (2004 & 2006). She earned ACC All-Tournament Team and ALL-ACC Academic Team honors in 2006. Miles is ranked 7th overall in all-time career saves and tied for 6th in season saves.
Chris Panos is 12 year veteran of the National Lacrosse League. His lacrosse career includes Division 1 play at Hofstra University where he earned Eastern Conference All-America honors his junior and senior years, three time member of Team USA indoor, member of winning team (three times) for the Mann Cup, Canada’s National Senior Lacrosse Championship, as well as winning a NLL World Championship trophy with the Philadelphia Wings in 2001. He is the Founder and President of AdvancedLacrosse.com, a company based in Seattle dedicated to assisting youth and high school players with their lacrosse skills. Chris is the incoming coach for the Nathan Hale HS lacrosse team.
Christopher Sherman is a native of Baltimore Maryland area. After three years as a varsity HS goalie, Chris attended Limestone College, winning an NCAA Division II National Championship. Following Limestone College, Chris transferred to St. Andrews in North Carolina earning a honorable mention All-American, with a 56% save percentage. After graduating college, Chris worked on his MBA, while serving St Andrews as an Asst Coach working with the defense and goalies. Helping St. Andrews to their best record on date with a 12-5 season.
Moving to the Seattle area 18 months ago, Chris serves our growing lacrosse community in several capacities as the Director of Boys Lacrosse for Snohomish County Lacrosse Club, Director of the North Sound Starz, WALOA official, and is currently working with 7 goalies in the state as well as Goalie Coach for the University of Washington Huskies Lacrosse.
