SEATTLE – High school lacrosse gets underway Monday for over 2,700 student-athletes representing 83 boys and 55 girls high school teams in Washington state.
The nine-week season kicks-off Monday afternoon with five Washington Schoolgirl’s Lacrosse Association games and one Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association game.
Monday’s Girls Division I games include Mercer Island at Lake Sammamish (4:00 p.m.) Marymoor Park and Holy Names at Tacoma (5:15 p.m.) at Mason Middle School in Tacoma. Girls Division II match-ups include Mukilteo at Klahowya (5:15 p.m.) at Central Kitsap Junior High in Silverdale and Graham-Kapowsin at Kennedy High School (5:15 p.m.) at Kennedy High School and Auburn-Mountainview at Holy Names Academy (5:30 p.m.) at Seattle’s Magnuson Park.
Boys Division I play gets underway with Seattle Prep at Snohomish (5:00 p.m.) at Harvey Fieldsin Snohomish.
A total of 19 boys and girls games are scheduled for Tuesday.
The nine-week Washington high school lacrosse season concludes in late May with the Boys and Girls State Championships.
About High School Lacrosse in Washington StateLacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the U.S. and in Washington State the sport has seen double-digit growth in six of the last eight years. In 2010, over 2,700 high school students representing 83 boys (www.WHSBLA.org) and 55 girls (www.WSLAX.org) varsity and jv teams in eastern and western Washington compete in a nine-week season March – May. The annual Boys and Girls Washington State High School Championships take place in late May.
