SEATTLE -- Hector Rhodes found the net with just 9-seconds left in overtime to give Lakeside a 10 – 9 Boys Division I lacrosse win over Eastlake, Wednesday at The Lakeside School in north Seattle.

Rhodes’ behind-the-back goal avenged a loss earlier in the week to Issaquah and gave the Lions their third win of the season, keeping them alive for a spot in May’s state tournament.

With Lakeside holding on to a one goal advantage as the clock ticked down in the final minutes of regulation, Eastlake’s Pat Keogh beat Lakeside goaltender Nick Canino to send the game into overtime.

In sudden death, both Eastlake and Lakeside had chance after chance to score, but neither could get the ball into the cage.

In the final minute, Lions midfielder Sten Jernudd threw a pass across the restraining box to Rhodes, who scampered 20 yards down the left side in a race against the clock. At the left side of the cage, with an Eastlake defender forcing him past the goal line extended and losing his angle on the goal with every additional step, Rhodes whipped a shot around his back, beating Eastlake’s Trevor Olson for the game-winning goal. The goal was the 14th on the season for Rhodes.

“That was the exact time to use that move,” said Lakeside coach Jeff Pattison, describing how Rhodes’ choice of an unorthodox move set up an angular advantage on the goal. “In that situation it wasn’t a showy move – it was a good player finding a good opportunity for a score.”

With the win, Lakeside advanced to 3-6-0, while Eastlake dropped to 0-7-0
