Snohomish downs Seattle Prep in boys lacrosse
SNOHOMISH, Wash. – Justin Jones scored 3 goals and 2 assists to lead Snohomish to a 9 – 7 Boys Division I lacrosse win over Seattle Prep, Monday at Harvey Field. Seattle Prep’s Cassidy Miller tallied 5 goals in the loss for the Panthers.

MI drops Lake Sammamish in girls lacrosse
REDMOND, Wash. – Mercer Island’s Ellen Haas scored a hat trick to lift the Islanders to a 16 – 11 win over Lake Sammamish, Monday at Marymoor Park in Redmond. In the win, Islander goalkeeper Erika Egan turned away 17 Lake Sammamish shots. Ali Savage and Olivia Krueger each scored 3 for Lake Sammamish.

TACOMA, Wash. – Ari Zimmer and Saide Trelezen each scored two goals as Tacoma outlasted Holy Names 6 – 4 to open the girls high school lacrosse season, Monday at Mason Middle School in Tacoma. Caroline Vokos tallied 2 goals and Katie Arthofor had 15 saves in the loss for Holy Names.

SEATTLE – Katie Lopes and Elizabeth McDonald each scored four goals to lead Holy Names in a 12 – 2 Girls Division II lacrosse win over North Kitsap, Monday at Seattle’s Magnuson Park.

The win lifted Holy Names to 4-5-0 in Division II play, while North Kitsap dropped to 2-7-1. Holy Names is just three points behind eighth place Lakeside, which is hanging on to the eighth and final playoff spot.

With four scores on the night, Lopes now has nine goals on the season, while McDonald has 12.

In the first half, the Cougars shut-out North Kitsap 5 – 0 then added another seven in the second.

Holy Names goaltender Blair Thomas (4-4-0) had nine saves in the win.

BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash. – Mariah Walk’s eight goals led Bainbridge Island to their second shutout of the season, upsetting second-place Holy Names 19 – 0 on Wednesday in Girls Division I lacrosse action on Bainbridge Island, Wash. With the win, the Spartans advanced to a perfect 5 – 0 on the season.

The Spartans started off with a flurry of goals scoring 14 in the first half and finished with five in the second.

With eight goals on the night, Walk moved into second place among scorers in Girls Division I play with 26 goals. She is just one behind league leading goal scorer Victoria Maxon of Holy Names. Rachel Harmon had eight ground balls to lead the Spartans on defense.

The Spartans’ last shutout came on March 19 in a 20 – 0 drubbing of Tacoma at Bainbridge Stadium.

With the loss, Holy Names dropped to 5-3-1.

AUBURN, Wash – Gretchel Lomboy scored five goals and Mackenzie Cannon scored four to power Holy Names to a 15 – 4 Girls Div. II high school lacrosse win over Auburn Mountainview Friday at Auburn Mountainview High School in Auburn, Wash. The win was the first of the season for Holy Names.

Holy Names got down to business just 1 minute, 2 seconds into the game as Rayna Stackhouse connected for the first of four unanswered Cougar goals to start off the first half. Stackhouse’s sister Mira Stackhouse scored just 30 seconds later to give the Cougars a 2 – 0 advantage. Lomboy then connected with back-to-back goals before Auburn Mountainview finally found the net at 13:21 on a goal by Hannah Morse.

Taking the field in the second with a 7 – 3 advantage, Holy Names again took charge early on. The Cougars’ Danielle Bohonos led off scoring just 1 minute, 49 seconds into the half. Elizabeth McDonald, Mackenzie Cannon and Gretchel Lomboy then each connected to give the Cougars an 11 – 3 advantage before Emily Starkel found the net for Auburn’s lone goal in the second half.

Holy Names goalkeeper Blair Thomas (1-3-0) had 11 saves in the win, while Auburn’s Katie Burkhauser (1-5-0) fended off 16 shots.

SEATTLE – Sam Merrick and Victoria Maxon each connected for four goals to boost Holy Names to a 15 – 6 Girls Division I high school lacrosse win over Curtis, Tuesday, at Seattle’s Magnusson Park.

Holy Names led 8 – 4 at the half and found the net seven more times in the second for their fourth win of the season.

Merrick’s four goals gives her a total of 21 on the season to lead all scorers in Girls Division I play. Maxon is second with 19 on the season.

The Cougars fired 26 shots at Curtis goaltender Rachel Phua (0-5-0), who made 11 saves. Holy Names goaltender Annie McKeon (3-1-0) faced just 11 Curtis shots, making 5 saves.

With the win, Holy Names advances 4-1-1 on the season, while Curtis dropped to 0-5-0.

About High School Lacrosse in Washington State
Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the U.S. and in Washington State the sport has seen double-digit growth in five of the last seven years. In 2009, over 2,370 high school students representing 75 boys and 49 girls varsity and junior varsity teams in Washington state will compete in a nine-week season March – May with the annual Washington State High School Championships taking place May 16 (girls) and May 30 (boys). Varsity boys lacrosse is contested in the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association (www.WHSBLA.org) with 14 Division I and 28 Division II teams. Varsity girls lacrosse is contested in The Washington Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association (www.WSLAX.org) with 15 Division I and 16 Division II teams. Most of the teams represent high schools throughout the Puget Sound area.

SNOHOMISH, Wash. – Victoria Maxon scored three goals to propel Holy Names past Snohomish 9 – 7 in Girls Division I varsity high school lacrosse play Friday night at Harvey Fields in Snohomish, Wash.

After trailing Snohomish 5 -2 at the intermission, the Cougars rebounded with seven goals in the second half for their first win of the season, evening their record at 1-1-1. Snohomish dropped to 0-2-0.

In the win, Holy Names’ Amy Orloff and Sam Merrick each scored two goals and Bailey Hagen and Victoria Maxon each collected five ground balls. Meaghan Hess of Snohomish scored twice.

Madeline Weber had six saves in goal for Holy Names. Olivia Montana had seven saves for Snohomish.
